Mary Carenbauer has a global interest in bridging social challenges and opportunities. As a futurist with the Institute for Alternative Futures, she served as the co-lead for a national effort developing future scenarios in human services and human progress that was funded by the Kresge Foundation. Mary facilitated partnerships with government entities and nonprofit providers in more than ten state and local areas, from Mississippi and California, and assisted in the publication of the report and curriculum entitled “Human Progress and Human Services 2035.”
Prior to joining IAF, Mary worked as an environmental educator in India, as a social impact researcher in the United Kingdom, and as an onsite researcher for a technology justice project in Dhaka, Bangladesh. She has a Master of Science in Environment and Development from the University of Edinburgh and a Bachelor of Arts from the University of Pittsburgh.
